Cocktail Chronicles Campus Edition Proposal: Alcohol Awareness & Safety

Mission:

The mission of Cocktail Chronicles Campus Edition is to provide awareness to teens and young adults about the consequences of drinking alcohol at an early age.  We provide fact based information to make teenagers think twice before taking a sip.  This program also offers health information on regular beverages (i.e. soda, juice, and water).

Background:

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), teen alcohol use kills 4,700 people each year.  That’s more than all illegal drugs combined.  Ninety percent of drinkers began before the age of 18 reports the Centers for Disease Control.  Underage drinking is a risk that attracts many developing pre-adolescents and teens.  When young people try alcohol, they often don’t realize the damaging effects drinking can have on their lives, their families, and their communities.  According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 4,358 people under age 21 die each year from alcohol related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and drowning.  Schools, universities, and government municipalities can no longer leave it to the parent to discuss alcohol with teens and young adults.  Whether parents are having this dialogue or not in the home, it must be reinforced from the schools and communities.

Proposal:

It is our goal to empower teens and young adults with the proper knowledge to make the best decisions around beverage choices, particularly alcohol.  Students need to be made aware of the risks they are taking when indulging in alcohol, and how it could change their lives forever.  Our program discusses these key issues as it relates to alcohol:

  1. Increased Risk for Sexual Assault
  2. DUI’s
  3. Drop Out Rates
  4. Alcohol Related Fatalities (Car Accidents, Alcohol Poisoning, etc.…)
  5. Low Grades and Drop Out Rates
  6. Drinking Safety Tips (Date Rape Drug; Leaving Your Drink Alone; and Watch Others Pour Your Drink)
  7. Impaired Judgement
  8. Sipping and Posting On Social Media

Benefits:

By participating in The Cocktail Chronicles College Edition, you will be equipping your students with the knowledge to choose their futures over alcohol by being aware and/or practicing safe drinking precautions as young adults.  By introducing our program, you can substantially reduce the chance that teens in your school or community will drink before the age of 21, thus saving lives.
