Cocktails & Politics: Do Politicians Get A Sipping Pass?
Atlanta, GA – Cocktail Chronicles hosted an event called “Cocktails & Politics: Do Politicians Get a Sipping Pass?” The hashtag for the event was #ORNAH. It was from 7:00-9:00 pm on May 17th. Cocktail Chronicles created an opportunity to have a conversational panel to provide feedback from different politicians about alcohol.
On behalf of Cocktail Chronicles, we would like to thank everyone who came out to this event. We would like to thank our panelists, Dee Dawkins-Haigler (State Representative, District 91), Aaron Turpeau, Sr. (Chairman- The Underground Railroad), Derrick Jackson (State Representative, District 64), Tharon Johnson (Director of Greenberg Traurig, LLP) and our host Tracye Bryant (Author of This Twisted Life). Everyone who attended left with more knowledge about politicians and alcohol.
The panelists spoke on the question, Should Politicians Get A Sipping Pass? Derrick Jackson said, “The short answer is no, no one should be above the law.” The panelists also discussed topics on the significance of micro-breweries and the dangers of driving under the influence. Mrs. Dee-Dawkins Haigler said, “You should never drink under the influence because you never know what may happen. I am proud that none of my members in the Black Caucus have a DUI.” Political Strategist Tharon Johnson said, “One of the things I am glad about is that we have UBER, so there is no excuse for people to get caught drinking and driving.” There was a lot of information given to the audience that many of them did not know, such as the large number of elected officials around the country that has been arrested for DUIs.
